lol I really feel bad for the Canadians, but hope all this negative publicity does *something* to make the situation better, either with Rogers or bringing some competition to the market.

From the horse’s mouth :
Effective July 11, and as a limited time promotional offer for customers
who activate by August 31 on a three year contract, a data-only offering of
6GB of data for $30 per month is being made available that can be added to any
in-market voice plan. For example, with 6GB of data, iPhone 3G users can visit
35,952 web pages, or send and receive 157,286 emails, or watch 6,292 minutes
of YouTube videos each and every month.(xx)

That _might_ work for me… It’s still nearly impossible to get a clear idea of what the hell I’m buying on Roger’s site.

$25 for the Mega Value plan (Long distance included? Yes? No? What do they mean “250+100” weekday minutes?)
Another $15 for the “iPhone Value pack” to get call display (eligible?), $30 for the Big Data plan, and $7.45 in mandatory fees…

77.45. + NB tax…  about $88.30/month for three years, IF canada-wide long distance is included somewhere in that plan and I don’t accidentally go over the limits.

I’ll probably wait until sometime in mid-august to hear what the buzz is, and to see what my budget is like.

‘Will I buy one for myself? Not on your life. Don’t get me wrong ? I like the iPhone, I want an iPhone, but I can’t justify a three year contract with anyone at any price. Technology can change a lot in three years. I already pay for high speed Internet and TV service. How many monthly fees can one man stand?

In a fight between groceries and cellphone data plans, food wins. Get back to me when I can have an iPhone with free Call Display and unlimited data on a pay-as-you-go plan.

Meanwhile, I’ll stick with my iPod touch and my rotary phone.’‘

The above is from a review this am from Canada’s National newspaper, The Globe and Mail. The writer’s final thoughts on getting an iPhone is shared by a lot of Canadians I am sure. Until we get some competition in this country sales will lag the rest of the world percentage wise.
