[quote author=“sleepygeek”]Seems like it’s MobileMe pre-order plus a half-rearrangement of the iPhone store for iPhone 3G. (No bluetooth headset until it sports a new dock?).

OT: handset trends

Being the owner of a Bluetooth headset + dock (which sits on my desk), and the original dock which accompanied the original iPhone (which is beside my bed to keep the iPhone close to hand and charged), I’m extremely annoyed the new phone won’t apparently fit into the old dock. How unnecessarily dumb/greedy/blinkered.

The changed design is partly on account of speakerphone use, to avoid covering speaker and microphone. Otherwise it must just be a slight bulge in the middle of the back; maybe you can Dremel the old dock a teensy bit.

(Ma says you’re lucky to be getting an iPhone 3G at all. Some of us got nothing for our wasted morning at o2.co.uk. :x )

Ah the ol’ Dremel.. yes, I can probably bodge something together smile I never use it in speakerphone mode -I just want to use it as a stand-up desk charger.

I have a sinking feeling that I won’t actually get one delivered even though I successfully completed the ordering procedures - O2 say they have no way of tracking orders for iPhones until they’re shipped out, hence no order reference numbers - I think I might be in for a “let down” - but if I am I’ll make sure they credit me with at least a couple of months’ worth of subscription by way of compensation - they’re usually quite good at offering that kind of compensation if you really put your foot down over bad customer service in my experience.

Those are all web-based apps and have been available for a while.  Some are quite good.  I believe they are all free (just url’s to web sites).

SHHH!  don’t tell the bears but

U.S. retail sales rise most in two months, ICSC says - Bloomberg.com

Bloomberg.com reports that U.S. retail sales rose the most since the first week of May, bolstered by discounts, a trade group said. Sales at stores open at least a year advanced 2.3% last week, International Council of Shopping Centers said today in a statement. Same-store sales probably increased 2.0-2.5% in June, the group said. WMT and COST may have “disproportionately” benefited from federal tax-rebate checks spent in June, Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners LLC, a New Canaan, Connecticut-based retail consulting firm, said yesterday in an interview. June same-store sales probably increased 3.3% at general-merchandise chains such as WMT and warehouse club COST, and declined 5.7% at department stores, Citigroup said in a July 6 report.

Let’s see:
60 new apps since July 1st
270 in June
210 in May

I think you can buy some of them now.
You click on the application.

So cool!  I haven’t clicked on many…just trying to browse what’s available, but, so far, all the ones I’ve clicked on were free. smile  Probably a good day to browse the Apps store…keeps me from looking at my trade screen. roll eyes

Many news agencies reporting MobileMe will go online tomorrow evening.

Folks, this is NOT the Apps store.  This is a collection of links to web based apps, most iPhone specific, and has been around for almost a year.  This has nothing to do with the upcoming SDK/Apps store.

With that stated, anyone with an iPhone should definitely browse the available web apps.  Some are quite good; almost all are free.  Just open the given link in Safari (or iPhone) to check them out.

Well, *this* is what I clicked on…and it seems to be called the AppStore…I dunno…

edit:  guess I clicked on the WebApps for iPhone link at the bottom of the page.  Oh, well…still MUCH better than looking at my trade screen.  bug eyed  frown
