I’m looking at Blockbuster and I don’t see much of a future. Carl Icahn owns almost 9% of the stock and he’s not a man from what I can see that is patient about his holdings.
BBI dropped its bid for CC after reviewing the company’s books. I see the market moving swiftly to digital delivery and little space left for a bricks and mortar rental operation. The costs of buying movies has fallen and the ease of renting movies has improved. I see NetFlix in a much better market position and Apple’s nascent movie business beginning to gain ground.
I look at it this way: With tens of millions of handheld movie theaters in the form of iPhones and video-capable iPods (including the touch) in the market with access to movies 24/7 that can be moved between home and mobile devices, what future remains for bricks and mortar video rental stores?
