I was trying to do the math and try to figure that out. But let’s just assume that each retail outlet was sold, on average, 100 iPhones over the weekend. That would require only 10,000 outlets wordwide.  ATT has 2200. Apple has 200+ stores worldwide. So we’re now at 2400. in the US.  I think it would be tough to make up the 7600 shortfall globally.  Of course, if I changed the assumption to 200-300/store we’ll be real close.  wink

I can’t see anything with that link ... I’m assuming it because I’m on the West Coast and it’s not after 9pm yet.  I would caution us against playing the number game .. I remember all too well the sting of finding out the “real” numbers after the initial launch last year.  Also keep in mind that this whole “in-store activation” process has been a HUGE BUST .... people are spending way more than 15minutes as originally predicted by Apple.

Were it not for Apple’s decision to activate in-store I could easily see the kind of numbers you mentioned ... unfortunately after going to 2 different Apple stores this weekend and seeing the line CRAWL .... and I mean CRAWL !!!!!  I don’t think they could have possibly sold that many.

This is not to say that this phone won’t sell HUGE amounts ... I believe it will ... I’d agree with certain posters on AFB that have said 20 million +  iPhones this year.

any thing over 600k this weekend would be great

The issue is that there were no online sales

I think each Apple store sold at least 500 per day

And each Att store sold 75 per day

You do the math

We still are in good shape

ATT = 75 * 3 * 2200 =  495,000
Apple= 500 *3 * 200 = 300,000
Total = 795,000 US only.

Seems high but . . . wink

BTW, last year’s numbers got so out of hand ridiculous that . . . evil

Compared to last year’s launch, the stores are in relatively good shape. While I’m disappointed to see some of the retail stores out of stock, I still see it more as a logistics issue than an inventory or supply issue. We’ll see what Monday evening’s numbers look like as an indication of supply.

Not all AT&T stores sell Iphones. In my area there were four stores but only two sell Iphones. And each store only had 40 to sell on day one.
I still would guess that it was a million sold over the weekend.

I believe all ATT company owned stores are selling the iPhone.  The ATT Authorized Retailers are not.  Look Here
The 2200 number above is just company owned stores.

Monday evening’s availability status will be telling. I suspect stores will receive ample shipments tomorrow and by next weekend supply issues should be resolved. Please remember this is a global product roll out. There’s no practical way to accurately determine supply needs at every point of sale. I still see store stocks as a logistical issue rather than an issue of global supply.

No matter the logistical arrangements, the buck stops at One Infinite Loop.

I walked by the 5th Ave Cube store today at 2:45 pm.  There were mobs of people waiting in line.  An apple agent there said there were at least 600-700 people in line, and there was a 2.5 hour wait.  (In the blazing hot sun, btw.  Everyone looked pretty happy, and it seemed like a party atmosphere.)  He said the store should have enough units in stock.

DH still hasn’t gotten a 16GB, and is pretty bummed about it.  He has been to the AT&T store the past three mornings and so far, no cigar.  frown  Today, they said they were out of iPhones and didn’t know when they would get more.  He said they weren’t very helpful about when that might be.  He’s not a very happy camper, just now.

Are you too far from an Apple store in Florida?
