[quote author=“sleepygeek”]Howlongtoretire - you seem to have left off Mercel and me from the spreadsheet, although we don’t make much difference (yes my IMEI has an obvious mistake - sorry).

Updated, and thanks for the analysis. Sounds reasonable.

Fascinating info.  Thanks!

There’s a lot of focus on the 3G iPhone, and rightly so, but don’t forget, the iPod Touch is going to see very strong #s too thanks to the App Store.  And sales of THAT won’t be on a subscription model!

The response to this thread has been ARTMANESQUE to say the least.  So I got the details from a friend’s iPhone 3G to add to the spreadsheet.

howlongtoretire: you can call him ianw

Serial number 84829

IMEI: 0116130093656xx

Bought in the UK on 31st July 2008 from O2: 8GB Black.

My friend tells me that when he first got it, (brand new out of the box) it was set up for Mexico, with everything in Spanish.

Come on people, all you lurkers, and posters, please join the project.

Gregg, thanks for that info. Week 29 making a very strong case for a weekly run rate north of 550K now.

(min 555K, max 837K, midpoint 696K, which is close to the 3M per month = 692K per week reported by DIgitimes).

Any of those would impress me. What I really want to see now is more week 30 numbers so we can try to get a sense of how high this ramp is going to go.

If we could get two volunteers per week… one early, one late?  wink

In addition to what you are already doing, I think it is important that you take the total number in IMEI & Sequence and divide by the total number of days.  From that you can forecast total sales for the quarter, as the average will adjust automatically for the period measured, which then can be extrapolated for the entire quarter.

From your data it appears to me that Apple has shipped 2.609 million units so far this quarter.  That run rate extrapolates to 7.2 million units (adjusting for initial 3 days of sales).  Keep in mind that Apple will commence shipping to another 20 countries in about a month.

It would also be very helpful if your readers included the model purchased.

Thanks Gregg. Anyone who has given data to this point please feel free to add your model to the spreadsheet (publicly editable). Sorry I didn’t think to ask at first.

I am hesitant to project sales right now, since we don’t know if Apple has been setting aside units for the August launch. It’s possible they are setting aside a unique tac as well. Just don’t know.

What do others think?
