More Than 100,000 Copies Sold in First Weekend

CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/—
Apple(R) (Nasdaq: AAPL) today announced that more than 100,000 copies of Mac(R) OS X version 10.2 “Jaguar” were sold worldwide during its first weekend, setting a new record for Mac OS sales for a single weekend. More than 50,000 people visited Apple’s 35 retail stores during Friday night’s
“100 Minutes of Jaguar” launch event.

“Jaguar is our fastest out-of-the-gate OS release ever, and it’s looking like a home run,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The reviews are off the charts, and customers are raving about Jaguar’s stability, speed, new features
and Windows compatibility.”
*snip*

I guess the controversy surrounding the “high” cost of this simple point upgrade was from a small vocal segment of our community.  razz

I kind of suspected this, but it’s nice to confirm it. smile

Then again, they might have sold a higher volume and had happier 10.1 users if they had provided a lower upgrade price to early supporteres of X.

To have sold machines with OS X as the default implied that OS 9 was inadequate and outdated.  To have maintained OS 9 when OS X was the default implied OS X wasn’t fully functional.

To have charged a full $129 to early supporters of a less than fully functional OS was to piss off Mac faithful and reduce early sales of 10.2….

I realize the price of OS 10.2 has been debated already, but I really believe it hurt the sales of the OS to an important component of Mac owners .

It depends on what you look at, obviously,
But even more it depends on the way that you see

I bought it on thursday from the education apple store site, and it’s sitting at my house as we speak.  just waiting for me to get out of work at 5 to come and install it.  it’s calling my name while it packs up my stuff for me.  it’s the ultimate in productive system software.  it works for me while i’m away from my machine.  Not really, but that would be sweet.  It is, however, waiting at home.  I can’t wait.  Well, I can.
