Hey Everybody!

I bought a used Hi-Fi that works only with the audio plug as a source because, after looking at the iPod Dock Connector with a magnifying glass, I noticed that a couple of the little micropins are damaged.  Also, the inside of the connector looks as if someone spilled something in it and it has oxydized and rusted.  I’ve banged around the web to try to find instructions on how to take a Hi-Fi apart but,  no such luck.  I’ve also searched for a success story of someone having replaced the dock connector (It should be as easy as splicing an USB-iPod cable connector in place of the existing dock connector?) but no such luck.  And, I haven’t confirmed it yet but, I heard that the Apple store will repair or swap a Hi-Fi for about $340.00 (which I can’t afford).  I would appreciate any repair information or “how to repair a hi-fi dock connector” instructions or leads to where I can get this fixed cheap smile

Thanks again, tpj

How about this?  Does anyone amongst our population own a Hi-Fi and are you happy with it?

Also, what do I have to do to be able to download the speaker control options for my iPod Video?

Thanks again, tpj

I don’t own an iPod HiFi, but I do own an Altec iM7. The dock connector on that one is also starting to malfunction a little.

The HiFi’s dock connector doesn’t look like an easily replaceable part, so my first question would be: is it still under warranty?

Thanks Fellas for the reply.

A little background on the Hi-Fi is that while at an Apple Store, a couple of year ago, a store employee gave us a demo that turned heads that were clear on the other side of the crowded store.  The Hi-Fi, in my opinion outperformed the Bose that was comparatively priced and, I thought that the Hi-Fi, like all things Apple, was far more elegant and stood alone as a high tech boombox.  Fastforward a couple of years and while I was daydreaming of my fortune changing and of one day owning my very own Hi-Fi, I thought to search Graig’slist for one.  Luckily I found one that was cheap enough for me to afford but, the reason was that the dock connector was inoperable.  The unit was out of warranty but, for just $40.00,  I couldn’t pass up the deal.

Then, just today, my good buddy, “el Borachon” Podman, told me about a cool portable dj amplifier called the “Block Rocker” that is the ultimate iPod speaker system.  Oh well, maybe in a few years I can pick up a used one on Craig’slist…
