I don’t guess any of the other Mac forums have been hacked yet?

Now, Bryan and Dave, can we prevent this from happening again?

Super33, welcome to our forums.  I’m sure most people here wouldn’t mind hearing some of your insight.  Seriously.  If you really think Macs suck, why don’t you tell us why?  We can discuss it, as we have before (although under other pretense).

Congratulations on your “hack”, I think most of us would like to see your computer knowledge toward some kind of constructive end.  You can choose to either be a thug or to change the world.  I am guessing that you are quite young and have most of your life ahead of you.  You still have a chance to do something good with that knowledge instead of this (pretty pointless) nonsense.  Thanks.

There is a fix.  In fact, it was released just a few days ago.  That suggests (rather strongly) that our “hacker” was a scriptkiddie who found out about the exploit when the fix was released.  Unfortunately, we didn’t see the patch until our scriptkiddie struck. We are working on it.

There is nothing better than having to mess with the annoyance of a freakin’ scriptkiddie.

Are you kidding?  Of course he is upset!  I would want to hack a forum if someone posted a movie like that of my dad too! icon_wink.gif

doing something right?  What is it about having a server or a system compromised that makes people think they must be ‘popular’ with crackers?  It generally doesn’t have anything to do with that.  People who want to compromise systems, for whatever reason, generally go after the easiest targets.  For a server, it could be an unpatched IIS 4.0 server, or an ‘out of the box’ RedHat Linux 6.1 server.

If someone has a vendetta against you, then sure they may devote more resources against you and your systems.  But you aren’t doing something ‘right’ if you get hacked into.  Most likely, you did something ‘wrong’ (didn’t install a vendor patch, run microsoft server operating systems icon_wink.gif ).

What? What’d I miss? What hack?

BTW, I was on StarTrek.com the other night reading up on Enterprise and came across a hack. I hit the print screen button (I was on my Pee Sea) and then refreshed the screen and it was gone.

For the record, Stepson is right.  Had we been more diligent in keeping the engine up to speed (and taken another precaution that we have now taken), out little break in would not have taken place.  Fortunately, the person that did it caused no other harm than embarrassing us (not that this makes it an excuse to have done so in the first place).  It could have been substantially worse.
