Ladies and gentlemen:

I arrived home from work this evening with two PMs from litespeed, a couple/few locked topics and heated discussions about mod actions in the AFB.

You’re all keeping me busy tonight.  lol

It appears sometime today the AFB took on the appearance of the Congress debating the bailout - lots of rancor, colorful comments and general unease about what can or should be done.

I’m happy to respond my decisions here are final. No more debate.

A few matter to highlight:

The AFB is not a forum for dispensing investment advice. If it looks like advice, reads like advice, it’s intended to be advice and it will be summarily deleted without comment. Ern, you’re smart enough to figure it out. smile

The intraday topic - It’s intended for intraday discussions and intra-day discussions only. It’s not a place for discussing the Minnesota Twins (artman, the White Sox won wink) or any other issue.

Seriously, it’s frustrating to arrive home at night (remember, none of the mods - including me get paid for this work) to find the intra-day topic run amok without a single trading-related post since the New York close but dozens of off-topic comments since 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. I’d prefer not to be the lead post in the topic refreshes but most often I’m left without a choice.

Posts unrelated to trading do not belong in the intra-day topic.

Non-news flash: Tommo has a temper that flares when non-trading posts appear in the intra-day topic.

News flash: Thanks to his colorful and quick action you ain’t seen mine. On the rare occasions my temper reveals itself drunken sailors have been known to sit up and start taking notes.

Political discussions: There’s a forum designated for no hold barred political discussion and commentary. Please use it. I enjoy a spirited political discussion as much as anyone, but taking up AFB space with rants, partisan bickering and all around kick-butt political talk is best reserved for that forum. Besides, it could use the traffic.  wink

I’ve deleted all of the moderator-related topics posted today.

The current banking and financial crisis can bring out the worst in us or the best in us. It’s our choice. Let’s get back on track discussing AAPL. It’s what we’re known for and what drives interest in our community. It’s time for normalcy and a return to our oft-quoted AAPL discussions.

Litespeed, thanks for your notes and concern.  Everyone, feel free to PM me with comments.

Thanks DT for all the personal time you put into the AFB. As far as the above comment is concerned, in the past, the Intraday thread has been arbitrarily cut off leaving valuable posts made after the close thrown away into the archives. Once trading is over, many of the Intraday posters finally have a chance to put some time and thought into contributions that will be useful for the following trading day. Time and again though, I have logged on the next day to see the whole effort of myself and others vanish into archive file cabinent oblivion.

With all due respect, why bother contributing after hours if there’s a good chance a Mod will toss your efforts in the trash? This is why the afterhours posts have digressed into a session of merely blowing off steam. Which frankley, people who’ve been trading and
watching the market all day long and therefore are posting in the thread for trading, really could use anyways. I’m sure it’s very annoying to come in at the end of the day and see this foolery, not realizing all the stress we have just gone through together for several hours on end. I would love to see some of the great afterhours posting comeback to the
Intraday thread. Just respectfully request of Mods to be more sensitive to what gets cut off and the intention of why/when it was posted on such a time sensitive area of the forum.

Again, thank you for the time you devote to the AFB DT and for bringing forth the opportunity to discuss this matter.  smile

Can we create an intra week topic instead?

RE: intraday topic - Seems to me that there are times when micro factors are more important and other times when macros factors are…

maybe we should relabel the intra day topic to day-trading topic and then add an intra week topic. As kiwi stated, people have different work lives and live in different time zones!

BTW, I, for one, do appreciate the most of the mods.  Thanks! apple

But what do I know roll eyes

Create any topic you like - just hit the “new topic” button; anyone can do it. Want to discuss Out-Of-Hours non-trading related stuff? Start a topic. If its popular enough it’ll remain on the front page. If it isn’t, it’ll vanish into obscurity. Want to discuss week-to-week movements? Start a topic.

Its easy: hit the New Topic button. If other AFB’ers like your topic, they’ll contribute to it, and it’ll stay alive. If it isn’t popular enough or its relevance fades, eventually it’ll vanish off the front page.

Its really very easy smile
