Just finished an interview with the San Francisco desk for Minnesota Public Radio. Don’t ask how they found my name and number. Infamous, I guess. Anyway, the story will air on Thursday. This reporter, John Gordon, will be doing a preview story on the Apple Store’s opening.

Basically, he asked me if I thought Apple did the right thing with the stores. I said “hell, yes.” I told him that I was since Apple is notorious for making bone-headed business moves, that I was surprised that the store wasn’t being opened in Har-Mar (a very small shopping center in a low-key suburb named Roseville).

Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see how my quotes are handled. Seems like I’m having more than 15 minutes of fame…

Congratulations, Rodney!

FYI, Minnesota Public Radio’s web site has some links to RealAudio streams of their station.  I am not sure if they offer the same 24/7 programming as on the real station but perhaps we could catch the interview on there.

Edit: I forgot the URL

I’m wondering if there is going to be a lot of media coverage at the Mall on Saturday.  I am expecting a lot of people to show up from all over the place.  The Mall is about 5 minutes from one of the bigger airport hubs in North America.  Dang, now I’m not sure what time I should get there… 6 am?  5:30?  Hmm.  Anyone who has been to any of the other store openings have any advice?

PS.  Don’t knock Har Mar. icon_wink.gif   They are doing a lot better now than they used to be.  They recently got a Mars Music store which is in my opinion the best mucical instrument store (etc) in the Twin Cities.  Don’t get me wrong, I think Apple would have made a big mistake opening a store there. icon_biggrin.gif

Hey, there was someone on a MacNN article feedback page saying that Apple should have put the store in Uptown since the poster had such a hatred for MOA! Now, as nice as it would have been to be able to walk to the Apple Store in under four minutes, what a wrong-headed location decision that would have been!

Here’s the link to that MPR story, if you care: http://news.mpr.org/features/200108/09_gordonj_apple/

Other than the fact that I sound terrible on tape, it was a pretty decent interview. I was amazed that he used me as a main source icon_smile.gif Unfortunately, the reporter edited out my shameless plug for Mac Observer icon_frown.gif

BTW, I just noticed that Ron Johnson, the VP in charge of Apple retail, is a Minnesotan icon_smile.gif
