OK, first, this is NOT a rumor, “inside info” or anything like that; this is just a look what I personally *hope* will be forthcoming for the desktop lineup by this holiday season:

http://www.aapltalk.com/generalstuff/apple_desktop_hopes.html

These speculations are based on the growing anecdotal evidence that the 15” flat-panel iMac is getting squeezed out from both above (17” model) and below (eMac).  As for the G3 iMac, while it is obvious that its’ days are numbered, I think it will hold out for at least another 6 months or so.  I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict one final iteration of the iMac Classic before it gets EOL’d completely.

Thoughts welcome—whadya think? Feasible? Way off?

I like those prices, especially on the eMac.  If you’re right, maybe there’s a new machine in my future.

BD,  8)  work!

The only comment I have is on the timeline for the elimination of the classic iMac. In the education market it will take years for much of the K-8 software to be made Mac OS X native. The G3 iMac may be a suitable product for schools on a tight budget considering that OS 9 software may be in the market for a few more years.

I dunno if this is any indication on the life of the G3 imacs… but my local CompUSA has all theirs on clearance.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say; your not even in the ballpark. For starters, the G3 iMac is out after the first of next year. The eMac is on shakey ground, having a CRT and all. The 17” flat screen iMac is getting less then rave reviews. The 15” is selling great.

Never say Never

Well, I suppose it’s only speculation/rumour, but both MacNN, and Ars, are reporting comments from a Taiwan Newspaper, about forthcoming 19” Screen Imacs.  Apparently the same newspaper that reported the 17”.

As usual, there’s a lot of Ifs there, but if that was to happen, like WOW.

Time will tell.  VERY interesting though.  If it had a speed hike at the same time, would be almost the ideal home computer IMHO.

Crossing fingers,

John.  smile
