When I view the TMM Forums Index using Default Txt Encoding and scroll down to “the mac observer?” (and what should be “caf?”, I see “caf????”; when I look with Western (ISO Latin 1) encoding, I also see “caf????”; with Western (Mac OS Roman) this becomes the more mathematically puzzling “caf√??π”; then again, with Unicode (UTF-8) a more concise “caf??” is displayed.

Where’s the caf

(Er… that’s not exactly what I wrote—more problems with “unusual” characters, I suppose, but I think you get what I mean!)

See this thread.

The issue may have been fixed with the switch to this new forum engine. I haven’t checked.

Well, maybe.

The caf? (with an e-acute) has become a cafe (with no accent). Still, it’s a lot better than a caf????.

Edit: Oops? typing caf? (with e-acute) results in the display of caf? (with question mark) and caf???? came from something completely different. Ah well, back to plain old unaccented text without recourse to special characters, I suppose.
