I can across a book at the local Barnes & Noble about a year ago titled “God Calling”, edited by A.J. Russell. It’s a devotional written (1932) by two anonymous women, known as “The Listeners”. After a stranger had given one of the women a copy of the book “For Sinners Only”, by A.J. Russell, which tells the story of Frank Buchman and what became known as the Oxford Group, they decided to try and receive guidance from God, as described in the book. The result is amazing. Every day, they would copy down Gods guidance for them, for that day. Each days guidance is uplifting, inspiring and loving.
That started my curiosity about the book “For Sinners Only”. Found a copy on Amazon. The story goes, A.J.Russell was a newspaper editor for a London paper, looking for a story that might sell a few newspapers. Heard about something that was happening at Oxford University that was changing peoples lives and decided to do some inside reporting. But he found a story that changed his own life. After reading A.J.‘s book I needed to find out more about this man, Frank Buchman, who is at the center of this story and why I had never heard of him. This is what Wikipedia has to say about the man. The biography of Frank Buchman, “On the Tail of A Comet” , by Garth Lean, details the influence this man had on the world, even to this day. Read chapters 19, 20 and 21 as examples. He influenced greats such as Mahatma Gandhi, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Harry S. Truman, just to name a few. He was referred to as the Apostle Paul of the 20th century. The Christians of the 1st century is how he lived. He looked to God for guidance in every part of his life. He demonstrated that, if it is Gods Will, then He will provide what is needed and the necessary doors will be opened. God only asks that you act with faith.
Have doubts about how the Bible could have been inspired by God? Read these books. Not sure of what is missing from The Church? Again, read these books. It’s as simple as this. We were designed to have a personal relationship with God, every moment of every day in everything that we do. These books give examples of people that have done just that.
Want a more up to date example of God providing guidance:  “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young.
