Alice, I am not so sanguine about the ‘stress testing’. There are reasons to believe stress testing is impractical or will simply yield what Roubini et al have been claiming: the banks are insolvent.
The Reuters story can be interpreted in a benign fashion: Uncle Sam will test you and, if you need it, give you some $$$ medicine (the ‘extra cushion of support’). On the other hand, the momentum is building behind nationalisation: the tests may be harbingers of the end, at least for C and probably BAC.

If gov is going to take over C and BAC then just do it! Let’s take the pain now and get it over with. It’s worse having this drag on.

Bank stress details are out. Stress testing will be completed by end of April 2009.

I thought the banks were already “stress tested” and failed miserably. :bugeyed:
