Gartner’s Smartphone sales data
-
The good people at Gartner have released 2008q4 sales data for smartphones. YoY was 3.7%, and we all know that the iPhone sales growth was 84%. 2009q4 will say the real story.

I calculated growth data for iPhone sales based on data provided by Apple, not Gartner estimates. Gartner estimates units sold to final customers, Apple releases units shipped.

Gartner uses data released by the carriers as to actual enduser sales. I like this metric because it eliminates the effects of channel stuffing. Not that Apple does this, but there are firms that have in order to artificially inflate their results.
