Now that Apple has finished updating its Mac product line, are you planning on buying a new Mac now, or waiting for Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) to ship?

I will buy a new iMac when my current machine is 2.5 years old. For me, this means February 2010.

I think Snow Leopard will make a new Mac Mini an exponential improvement on my old 1.5Ghz Core Solo as a media center. I’ll get it as soon as it ships with Snow Leopard.

I’m looking at updating the two Nov’08 Macbooks to SL once it’s out and I’ve seen what other people’s experiences with it are. If it’s as good as the rumors and leaks suggest then I’m there. If it doesn’t show significant boosts in speed or other performance improvements then I might not. 10.5 works great. Heck 10.4 on my G4 tower works great too.

My original lampshade iMac finally bit the dust after too many “adjustments.” I was waiting for the new iMacs/Mac Pros to be released and bought a 24” 2.93GHz iMac with some upgrades. It was delivered early and I love it. I don’t mind the glossy screen either. I have found myself pushing it away from me since I’m used to a 15” screen. I had hoped to get a quad-core but the Core 2 Duo will have to do for now. The reduced hardware Mac Pro was just too much (cost) for me right now. As far as Leopard is concerned, I have been reviewing it on one of my work Macs (ADC member) and when it’s ready, I’ll buy it. It’s cost is not that much of a factor to me.

I just replaced two Mac’s. I replaced my aging iBook G4 with a new white MacBook and my 1st Gen iMac G5 with a new iMac. Both are great.
As for Snow Leopard… I’ll wait for compatibility reports. I had quite a software bill to replace apps from Tiger to Leopard, and I’m not ready for that again.

I’m still running a dual G5 so installing Snow Leopard on it isn’t an option, but it’s still plenty fast for most things and has 1.25TB of internal HD storage. I want a new Mac, but I really don’t need one.
Because I like to have a Mac that can run an older OS I was getting ready to buy an iMac prior to the Snow Leopard introduction, but the recent refresh and international price increases were too disappointing. I was looking for a quad core processor, LED backlit display, better anti-glare on the glass and some way to replace the hard drive that doesn’t involve removing the entire LCD panel.
I never install new operating systems until there is considerable feedback from the community so that takes us to July. That’s really close to a possible fall hardware refresh so I’d wait for that. Should that fail to happen it could be this time next year before I buy a new Mac. Unless, of course, I get sick of waiting and go the hackintosh route.

Just two weeks ago I replaced my PowerBook G4 with a new Unibody MacBook Pro - I needed to finally get to Intel Land. I’m looking forward to Snow Leopard but I’m not necessarily going to get it the day it comes out. . . well, maybe

Now. As in this Friday. My MacPro is en route from China.
It’s replacing a MDD Dual 1.2 GHz G4 that’s now 7 years old. And showing it.I cannot wait!

Just bought a new Macbook, added a 500 gig hard drive and 4 gigs of ram and it’s a great machine. I’ll get the upgrade when it comes out as a family pack there’s 3 other Mac’s in this house so there was no point in waiting for me. But I’ve never waited for an OS update to buy a computer.

I’ll assess whether SL is worth the money. I’d planned to buy a new MacBook Pro probably this fall, once they’d had an initial tune-up for SL itself. But my G4 iBook has begun starting what looks like a very slow death spiral—glitchy little things that even a fresh install doesn’t seem to help much.
So when the refreshes came out a couple of weeks ago, I waited a couple of days until I started seeing some sales on the previous line. Got a MacBook Pro 15”. Still getting everything settled in, checking out all the apps. So far it looks like the only app casualty is Photoshop Elements 2.0.

I will buy a new iMac when OS10.6 is available. I was thinking about getting a new quad Mac Pro but the price is just too high by about $500. I was hoping that there would be a quad core iMac but that is not in the cards. Seeing the huge heat sinks on the Mac Pro cpus illustrates the heat build up and that will not work in an iMac. So I will buy a 2.9 GHz iMac with the ATI graphic card when OS 10.6 is out. Can’t wait.

I’m running Tiger on a 3 yr old MBP and also on a 1.5 yr old iMac. Need to update soon but waiting for Snow Leopard.

I have a unibody 13” MacBook and a 24” white C2D iMac that are getting the upgrade. I won’t upgrade the iMac until The processors move to Nehalem or a derivative. That is when we should see considerable and appreciable speed increases.

I’ll see if it supports my last-model G4 PowerBook. A long shot, I know, but hey… I’m in no need/hurry to change OSes anyway. Leopard works just fine. :-D
