What we now call the smartphone market is going to huge, bigger than the current market for consumer computers.  The importance of this “smartphone” market is not only defined by its size, but by its tight interrelationship with the computing market.  Apple is uniquely positioned in both.

What we now call the iPhone is a ultra-portable computer.  It will evolve.  Its importance to Apple cannot possibly be overstated.
