Thank you and Happy Father’s Day as well to all of the dad’s among our members, including those “dad’s” who may not have a biological link to their sons and daughters but have stepped up to the plate to play an important and positive role in shaping and sharing in the lives of others as a father or father figure.

Social anthropologists sometimes distinguish the social and biological roles by using separate names “pater” and “genitor”. In some societies, mothers brothers perform the social role we would call father.

I think this is really pater’s day!

Start reading about kinship on wikipedia.
