I am one of the many, it seems, with an ailing X1900 (they seem ok to start with) in my MacPro 1,1. I’m getting artifacts in OS X and many more in Bootcamp if I attempt to play a game. I regularly cleaned out all the dust that collects in the stock card cooler, which I have recently replaced incidentally with a Vortexx Neo cooler which does seem to be working in OS X but it still struggles in BootCamp.

So, I am invesigating graphics cards, I’ve done plenty of scouring around and I can’t find a definitive card to go for. I know I have missed the boat on 8800GT’s and I’ve also now read that some cards won’t be compatible with OpenCL which is coming in Snow Leopard (I’m no expert but I think I am right in saying that)

I’m going to give the Apple store a call in the morning and see what they say, I know they have the X1900 still on their site for sale but I would definitely not be getting another of those.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I’m running 10.5.7

I don’t have any personal experience with this, but have you checked out xlr8yourmac?  They’re a great resource for DIY upgrades: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/video.html#cards
