I’m standing here at a Snow iMac, standing next to some babes playing with digital cameras. This place is great. News at 11.

Well, since Rodney’s seen it already, he’s going to sleep in tomorrow and that’s more shirts for the rest of us, right? icon_biggrin.gif

Whoo! Found my old “Mac the Knife” t-shirt tonight. Now I know what I’m wearing in line icon_smile.gif

Retro: It’s 12: 25 a.m. and I’m just now able to read your message. (And my cell phone’s battery went dead, so I missed your message.) I don’t think your wife would appreciate me calling you now…

someToast: I got a T-shirt tonight, but that doesn’t deter me. I will be there tomorrow morning, to get another one (I was told that they will be giving out T-Shirts tomorrow, also).

In case youre curious about the shirts that are given out: It’s a white version of the black ones that the employees wear:

The front has an Aqua Apple logo. Below it are the words “Mall of America.” On the back of the shirt is a black barcode/UPC code with a white Apple logo in the middle. Below it are the words “Shop Different.”

Sweeet…

Hey! And sitting here on the 2nd floor above the Apple Store, you get just as strong of a signal off their Airport network! icon_smile.gif

One of the Geniuses was hoping for an improved Airport that would extend the range all the way up to the food court. He also said that this wasn’t a on-day deal—they’re keeping the network on all the time, so I guess I’m going to have to bring the ‘book to the Gigamall from now on!

Surfing in the mall? That’s excellent!

Not that I like malls, but an Orange Julius with a Hot Sam pretzel with cheddar takes me back about 20 years. icon_smile.gif

Huzzah—my 1/5th second of fame! icon_biggrin.gif

edited from MacCentral:
AppleStoreMOAline.jpeg

This must have been about 7:00 am. That’s me in profile, black shirt, working (koff - playing) on the iBook.

The couple ahead of me in line (at the inside-top of the ring) had brought in apple pie and apple juice boxes that they shared with the group. How cool is that? icon_smile.gif

I’d love to see some QuickTime movies posted from the people that were walking the length of the line with DV cameras later in the morning.

How many ppl were waiting outside the store before it opened at 09:00? Was it a huge crowd, or did you have the idea, there ought to be more Mac fans in the TwinCities area?

I’m hearing numbers of over 1,000 at the open, which I believe. I took a walk to the end around 8:40 am. The line (which was far from being single-file) extended about a quarter of the way around the mall.

After the store opened, mall security forced a break through Macy’s Court to keep traffic moving (it went straight across when I saw it).

An exterior shot of the mall, Macy’s on the left for scale:

Needless to say, it was a long line and a huge crowd—before, during and well after the opening. I got the idea that the Twin Cities had a good number of Mac fans getting up early today. icon_wink.gif

I spoke with the manager during the opening this morning; they said that they easily broke Tyson’s Corner’s record in attendance.

I should have a couple of stories ready for Monday on the weekend: the Friday night soiree and the Saturday Mac-fest.

A good time was had by all…

Found a couple pictures of myself on Mac Central:

P8110950.jpg
Standing in line.  The woman in the next line was buying a TiBook!  I was buying a keyboard.
P8110952.jpg
Still standing in line.  Waiting to buy my new Pro Keyboard (wore out my old one playing quake wayyyy too much.

When I bought my keyboard they gave me a neat notepad with an Apple logo on it.  It was really cool.  I didn’t get any of the Evian water that they were handing out.

Another cool thing: the little credit card signature reader dealie is run by those iMacs on the table, and when the screen pops up to enter your signature, there are two buttons (that look like they are Aqua-fied!) You have to tap one of them with the pen to accept or cancel the transaction.  Here’s to attention to details!

The Apple store was quite an event, and it was worth it to be one of the first ones in.  You get to avoid standing in line (you can pretty much just sit when the line isn’t moving) and they _crank_ the music when they first open it up.  Its awesome!!!  Plus the people in line are really neat and near the front they are really bunched up so you get to meet lots of them.

[edit: fixed broken picture links]

Of course my favorite one is the picture of me genuflecting in front of the religious symbol commonly known as the Apple logo… icon_biggrin.gif
