I guess Jerry Seinfeld used some of that 10million to get himself a new Mac.

Samsung Intensifies Advanced Foundry Logic Process

Samsung Electronics today announced that its new Semiconductor Research & Development Center has started advanced logic process development, an important part of Samsung’s drive in the foundry business. The Semiconductor R&D center brings together Samsung’s advanced logic and memory process research teams into one organization to realize synergies in various areas including new materials, transistor structures, and early access to leading edge process equipment. This will enable Samsung’s foundry customers to deliver industry leading silicon solutions that are optimized for performance, power consumption and area.

Samsung Foundry, one of the key growth engines of Samsung Electronics, offers advanced logic process manufacturing to leading fabless and IDM companies. Currently in mass production at 45 nanometer (nm), Samsung is also preparing next generation 32-/28-nm and beyond process technologies through its continued participation in the IBM Technology Alliance.

This is good news for future generations of Apple’s mobile devices.  The current Iphone uses a Apple stamped Cortex A8 single core part made by Samsung at 65NM.  The next generation part should be a multi-core Cortex A9 in 2010 at 45NM.  If Apple produces their own SOC designs they will probably rely on Samsung Foundry as they already are producing chips for Apple so it great to see their advanced process is tracking close to what Intel is working on.  Intel is moving Atom to Moorestown in 2010 which is also based on a 45nm high-k SOC process technology.

My neighbor is an editor at Fortune.  Fortune is working on a major article on Jobs.

You need to give us more than that…. Is your neighbor a super nice guy or a big prick?  That tidbit will help us understand how to position our investment accordingly.

I think it will be a ‘Steve Jobs is a genius’ piece.  smile

DELL *FINALLY* RELEASING IT’s MacBook “Air” .... the ADAMO XPS.

adamo-xps-hands-on-rm-eng-600.jpg

And, true to form, even it’s PACKAGING, is very “Applish” however, it is CIRCA MacAir version 1.0, before Apple discovered that cheap packaging could be substituted for elegant, if you only called it “Green.”

I bet they love that, give ‘em LESS and tell ‘em it is to “Save the Planet.”

As if CELLULOSE COULD EVER be in short supply, and trees don’t automatically replenish themselves?

I especially love the price since all the Windows blogs claim Apple is overpriced.  From Electonista

Dell won’t commit to a specific release date but expects the Adamo XPS to ship by the holidays. Its pricing promises to be controversial as the stock configuration will cost $1,799, or as much as a high-end MacBook Air with a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo S and five hours of life on its built-in battery.

Walked in a newly designed Apple store last night - first reaction is how bright and clean you felt as you started to walk in.  When I owned my retail store I read about the psychology of shopping and the one big point was the need for a transition zone.  When you walk into a store you have to transition from getting to the store to shopping.  The key is to make that transition fast before the person walks through your initial displays.  With the new store designs, I literally wanted to stop at the door and take it all in.  Very nice experience.  Store wasn’t crowded at all which means nothing but the experience was a pleasant one for sure.

For those with a long term outlook Iphone/IPad will have an eagle inside.  Should make for a great trivia question roll eyes

Via Fudzilla

Recently, we had the opportunity to meet the President of ARM, Mr. Tudor Brown, the man who stands right beside the CEO, who gave us many industry insights into the next few years to come.

At a Globalfoundries fab tour presentation, Tudor talked about ARM’s new chip codenamed Eagle, a product launching in 2013 that involves high-end graphics, multi-cores and increased security. This is something that might be powering many mobile phones and handheld devices at some point after 2013. The issue of seeing these chips in retail products right after chip launch is that it takes at least a year for manufacturers to develop new handheld and mobile phone platforms.

It’s somewhat remarkable when you’re presented an insight of what is coming in the 2013 timeframe, as three years is a significant amount of time in the IT sector due to its fast progression. During this time, mobile internet will become even more mainstream, and it has already become a lifestyle necessity for a significant majority of people. Let’s not forget to mention that ARM’s Eagle core should materialize in Globalfoundries’ 28nm bulk process and with time it will shift to 22nm.
