According to Appshopper.com, Apple took a big bite into their backlog of submitted apps on friday and approved a whole 1394 of them. Appshopper also provides a graph of daily approval numbers between July 23rd and September 21st. From this chart you can read that:

* Average daily approval rate is 377 apps
* The highest number of apps was approved on wednesdays (avg 507)
* The lowest number was approved on mondays (avg 184)
* The app approval process never rests. It is going on even during the weekend.

With this rate, more then 10000 apps are approved every month.

I can just imagine the Approvers coming in on Monday and saying “Jeez, look at this friggin’ pile, someone get me a cup of coffee!”
