Have the EU just passed a law to effectively outlaw the iphone interface (the dock connector) or will Apple just supply a cable?

BBC coverage here.

Apple may provide an adapter. It doesn’t really supply a charger with the iPhone, just a wall plug (unique to each country) and the USB-Dock cable. Charging is only half the problem; syncing is an essential part of the iPhone/iPod use, so we can’t expect Apple to abandon the dock. I posted a link in the News thread for a new product that will charge the iPhone (or Blackberry, etc) simply by laying the phone on a pad. If one could only sync via bluetooth or even Wi-Fi….

Ya I saw that but really that’s a terribly inefficient way of charging something.

I was really wondering if an element of this was to try and hold back the iPhone’s tidal wave.

Old issue.  Apple is part of the consortium that support this charger.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with the European Union, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is a United Nations body.
