I have iLife ‘08. It does everything I need. iLife ‘09 has some neat features, facial recognition in iPhoto is interesting, The big thing I use is iWeb and ‘09 didn’t change much to iWeb as far as I could tell. I just don’t use Garge Band and iDVD and because of that I couldn’t justify the $99 (Canadian price) to upgrade. Well I came into a few bucks extra and have been thinking of upgrading. My questions are

Any rumours/speculation/wild guesses about when iLife ‘10 might come out?

I have no guess regarding features. However Apple typically releases at the start of the year that the version is named for. The question is will they update this year or not? They did ‘05 and ‘06, skipped ‘07, released ‘08 and ‘09…

Actually here’s one bit of random speculation. Now that the iPhone has the digital compass i wouldn’t be surprised if the next major iPhoto release enhances Places to let it display tagged photos in Google Street View mode or something similar.

New rumor from BGR but no timeline.

Apple’s iDVD getting refreshed with iTunes LP creation support?  This one makes alot of sense to me.  Maybe a spring release I think Apple will do more to tie in their cloud initiatives with the construction of the new data center and all into the next version of Ilife.  Will use it to showcase what can be done with HTML5 and JavaScript.  Just my Opinion though. smile

That’s what one of our connects are telling us. We’ve been informed that Apple plans to completely redo their iDVD application (in addition to others in iLife 2010), and besides iDVD not being refreshed in a pretty long time, one of the reasons appears to be the inclusion of iTunes LP creation. This will allow artists (indie and major) to create a custom iTunes LP and submit it directly to Apple right from the new application that will be a part of iLife 2010.

I hadn’t thought of that, pats, but that ability would make a great addition to iLife.

Snow Leopard has the Core Location API now (to determine your location based on wifi triangulation, similar to what the iPod touch does) but nobody seems to be using it yet. It would be interesting to see that employed in a few Apple apps. For example, the ability to show photos taken nearby in iPhoto, automatic geotagging of images taken with Photo Booth, etc.

Now that iLife supports some social networking (Facebook and Flickr) it would be interesting to see that expanded. For example, post an image from iPhoto to Twitter via built-in support for TwitPic or a similar service.

Not much thought on iLife, but since iWork is usually released at the same time, I believe there will be some significant Keynote enhancements that will make it easier for people who use Keynote in un-standard ways.  Les Posen met with they Keynote group, and it sounded like they were very receptive to his presentation.  (Or at least this is the impression I got from his email on the applekeynote list).
