Safari 4.0.4 not displaying radio buttons

  • Posted: 17 November 2009 09:09 PM

Just noticed that on many sites, Safari 4.0.4 on my MBP running Mac OS X 10.6.1 does not display radio buttons.  If I guess correctly and click where I think they are, then they behave correctly.  I’ve tried running Safari with and without Saft - still same result.  Am I the only one with this problem?  Any suggestions?  I’ve been trying to avoid Firefox because it crashes far too often and is such a memory hog.  Thanks.

I’m on 4.0.4 on Leopard, and can see radio buttons.

Create a new login account, and try Safari logged in as the new user.  That will narrow it down to a problem with a preference or library item your account, or a problem within the build of Safari itself.

If the problem still exists, you can try using a WebKit nightly build.  Opera, Camino, and OmniWeb are all alternative browsers besides Firefox.

    Many sites or all sites?
Can you see the radio buttons in Stephan Swift’s reply? Those follow W3C standards. It might be that the sites you frequent are coded badly and don’t follow standards.

Upgrading to 10.6.2 should help solve a few performance issues.

I was getting regular crashes of the whole system before OS 10.6.2 and Safari 4.0.4. Once a week or so, general freeze. I didn’t notice a pattern in terms of which app I was currently using, but Safari was always running and I have a feeling Safari was the problem. So far with 10.6.2 and 4.0.4 I have had no crashes.

dsquared2247 can you give some URLs for the problem sites so we can see if we have the same problem?

hi, yes, I was able to see the radio buttons in Stephan Swift?s reply.

Some of the sites that have caused me problem:
    * paypal - in trying to change to use credit card vs. my bank account for an order
    * newegg.com in placing an order
Sorry, can’t provide exact url’s for these two.

I haven’t tried upgrading to 10.6.2, but will give that a try.

Also, still wondering if the plug-ins may be the culprit.  Have not yet tried Stephan Swift?s suggestion but will if 10.6.2. does not fix the problem.

    Thanks for the help.

Just upgraded to 10.6.2.  It’s a bit early, but so far so good. The paypal radio button is now displaying.

Great! I hope that it stays fixed for you.

    Have a good evening.
