You show me yours, I’ll show you mine.  evil grin

I realize [x136] that there are several of these threads, but if people are like me, then they’re always changing their GUI.

I am so jealous! devil  I have beautiful desktop wallpaper, but I don’t have the icons.  In addition, I’d love to find more wallpaper than simply those on MacMonkies.  I adore MacMonkies, but I’d like something new.  Oh, and something that I don’t have in my Pictures folder.

How does one add icons to replace the originals?  And how does one control the appearance of an individual program outside of maybe fooling with the toolbar?  I think I remember seeing how it’s done in the Terminal app, but I don’t know how to do it in the other apps.

I love Halogen’s desktop; Spider’s is great too, especially that icon that’s in the top left corner (I hope I’m not remembering someone else’s desktop), very mysterious, but very cool. And Jinkies,  evil grin , if the coming app is the one I think it is, then I’ll have to go rummaging through the freeware/shareware sites for a client, since I gave up the habit years ago.

I want to see more desktops!  I’m on the new eMac, so it’s a bit boring still.  I do, however, love one of the screensavers that came with Jag and could look at it for hours but for the enormous time sink it would be.  Ok,  I’ve been inspired.  I’m going in search of more wallpaper.

MacTad,

Visit http://www.iconfactory.com and download CandyBar, that is what I am using for my icon control.

Also, visit http://www.xicons.com for all of your icon needs, that is where I got all of mine. Be forewarned, there is over 70 pages of icons.

What type of wallpaper are you interested in? I have tons downloaded from the net, and also some of my own creation.

Hey MacTad, let me see if I can help you out a bit.  smile  idea

I find desktops at Mandolux and The Apple Collection .  The latter takes a while to load, even on broadband, so just a word to the wise.

Changing icons is pretty easy.  For nearly everything, you just highlight the icon you want to change, and click command-i (for get info).  Do it for both the icon, and the item you want to change.  It’s as simple as a copy and paste to change them.  Easy peasy.

For finding icons, there are several places you can go.  I always surf to Xicons and Iconfactory .  And what I really dig are the new icons at RAD.E8 .  There’s a whole system replacement set.  If you want to replace your system icons (application folder, home, desktop, trash, Finder, etc.), I use CandyBar (shareware).

Hope that’s helpful for a start!  big grin

my desktop… my life

My desktop looks like my mind (and my computer room) a perfect example of chaos theory in action.Nothing is put away… what i need the most is always at the top of the pile (Auto sort!). if i haven’t used it in a week i just dig.Once i fill the desktop i drag it all into a folder and consign it to history on my 80 gig maxtor and start fresh. As i do color work my background is d-50 neutral boring grey most of the time. so I’ll spare you the picture (its NOT pretty bug eyed)

There is a cool program called screendump that will regularly snap a picture of your desktop and post it online.  I have a link to mine on my web page.

I also have a big selection of desktop pictures.

I’ve not done anything fancy to my desktop, other than telling it to change once a day and after reboots.  Well, that and giving it nearly 300 pictures to choose from, none of which came with the machine.  Been building my collection pretty much since I got my Performa 6400 in ‘97.  Right now, the picture is something called ‘TV Hot Women’ with 8 actresses in underwear, but I don’t know who they are, save that one might be Jeri Ryan.

I’m surprised that no one’s mentioned it, but http://www.macdesktops.com has long been my site of choice for desktop pictures.  Two new pictures are posted daily, in any size that you could want.  Perhaps half my collection is from there.

I change my desktop background on a weekly basis, although this one has been one of my favourites for quite a while. Most of them are courtesy of Mandolux.

Note: this is a Rev2 Wallstreet 233 running Jagwire flawlessly. I leave my PentiumIII/900 notebook collecting dust now, for I can certainly do my daily work and play Alchemy on this one…

I won’t post mine as it is basically the way Apple gave it to me.

Though Jinkies what are those menubar icons on the right and what do they do, starting with the one in the corner, then there is a blue icon with a cross and beside that an item for temperature.  Not sure if thenext thing to the left of that is part of the temperature menu.  Where do you find these things?
