“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”
“The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.”

Everyone, especially every american, should read the books ‘John Adams’ and ‘Team of rivals’. It was a bit of an eye opener for me to learn just how much integrity and insight these first american politicians had, and what a thing of beauty the american constitution was. Adams and Jefferson correctly recognized the potential for misabuse by those running a government, and tried to put as many checks and balances as possible into place. They also recognized that a democracy would only work well if the electorate were educated and involved. Unfortunately, since the time of Hoover, McCarthy and many that came later, things have gone to hell in a hand basket. Witch hunts, mud slinging, media suppression and indoctrination have been used with incredible success. It seems the majority are blissedly unaware of this, with much of what has actually gone on in recent history only now beginning to be fully revealed. Americans need to to start thinking on their own again, rather than rehashing other people’s opinionated opinions.
Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Bottom line - if you have any interest in this topic (and everyone should) you owe it to yourself to read the two books above. They are not opinion pieces - just good, well written historical documents.

The HBO special “John Adams” is worth watching also. These were amazing men, true statesmen. Not the self-serving elitist politicians that we have become accustomed to today.
I’m sure you guys know Obama’s declared hero/role model is honest Abe. Not an easy match to live up to, but I hope he tries his damndest. Neither of them had an easy time with the messes they inherited or the slander they initially endured. ‘Team of rivals’ tells Abe’s story.

Like this?
My view remains to vote every incumbent out of office.

If what you are saying is true, then that proves that our president is truly delusional. There is no comparison between Abraham Lincoln and our present president, only contradictions. President Lincoln worked to rejoin a divided nation while Obama is causing a division. President Lincoln worked to do away with slavery while Obama is working to turn us all into slaves of the government. President Lincoln was a true statesman, leaving us with speeches that are still moving to read today. But the Obama speeches are filled with hatred and slander, always carefully presented for the greatest of effects, requiring a teleprompter, or he is lost. This president is nothing more that a self-serving, narcissistic politician that cares nothing about this nation, only his own desire for power. Very saddening.

NO. The former is based on the premise that most people are lazy, which is a lie that I simply do not believe (with the possible exception of investors, who hope to get rich with little work LOL!). The latter is based on the false premise that government tends toward evil, when government is US, you and me, and our government was created by the profound vision of the founding fathers. The unAmerican tea party types hate our very form of government, and would clearly prefer a dictatorship led by the right. It’s too bad your side doesn’t have a politician with the middle name of Hussein; he would make a fitting leader for your vision of America, in which the majority of Americans are so poor that they have essentially no freedoms, and hence no options in life.
While our president keeps pushing his government take over of our health care system he ignores what the people of the nation are truly concerned with. Unemployment. THIS is our presidents response to the problem.
A top Federal Reserve official said Tuesday that policy-makers may be accepting a higher level of unemployment as their goal in the future.
Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before, just move the goal post closer.
“Labor market issues ... lead me to think this accommodation will likely be appropriate for some time,” Evans said.
Yes thats right, the unemployed must be more accommodating.
Evans further said that despite debate over how much slack there is in the economy, high unemployment levels make it undeniable that output is well below the economy’s potential.
It’s good to hear that we are not reaching our potential. Any clues on how we can improve, Mr. Evans?
The U.S. unemployment rate held steady at 9.7 percent in January, and the Fed — the U.S. central bank — is expected to use its policy meeting next week to renew its promise to hold benchmark interest rates exceptionally low for an extended period as long as the jobless rate remains high and inflation tame.
9.7 percent is a very optimistic number. How long before the feds claim that 9.7 % is the new norm.

Thank you for your honesty. If only our president would show such honesty it would make the next elections so much easier.
You need to look in the mirror and you will see delusional. The Tea Party just wants the Constitution to be upheld. “We” are not the government, this is a representative republic, we elect our leaders and the are suppose to follow the will of the people. This does not mean that something is shoved down our throat because we don’t know any better. The founding fathers knew that the natural tendency of leaders was to create more power for themselves, this is where the left and right divide. The right wants to do for themselves, the left wants to provide for others using the people on the rights money. A perfect example of this was the Nebraska amendment in the healthcare bill.
By now everyone here realizes that you are just here to create havoc. I just wish more liberals were as open as you are. I have a question for you. Why is it that your point of view can’t keep a program airing on the radio? I will give you the answer, you want the radio station to air your views and take a loss.
Oh oh, The Constitution! I think I got another one… or three!
Which founding father said of the proposed American Constitution “This is likely to be administered for a course of years and then end in despotism [...] when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other” ?
In the same vein, another really honest guy said this:
“As a nation, we began by declaring that ‘all men are created equal.’ We now practically read it ‘all men are created equal, except Negroes.’ When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read ‘all men are created equal, except Negroes and foreigners and Catholics.’ When it comes to this, I shall prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty - to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.”
Slightly more on topic for this forum, this other guy from the Independence days (not an American) had urged suspicious attention to any proposed new law or regulation that comes from businessmen, because they “have generally an interest to deceive and even to oppress the public.”
