You assume constant flow of data (streaming, I guess) at full rate. No consideration for actual time to, say, read a web page or e-mail which I would bet is what most folks do when online.

You know what else is measured in a constant stream? The minutes you use on voice calls. It doesn’t take into consideration the time you spend dialing, or looking for a phone number, or trying to figure out what to say. It only measures the actual time you are spending using bandwidth.

P.S. Those are average speeds from last year not “full rate.” With the upgrade to HSDP+, peak speeds are much faster now.

I think you are misunderstanding what I meant. 200MB can be a very significant amount of data depending on what you are doing. If you are just looking at primarily text web pages it can take a long time to use up that much data. Streaming video will eat it up fast.

The way you posted the numbers made it sound like 200 Meg would go in a relative heartbeat. If you stream, that is quite true. I’d bet that the majority of users don’t stream. In my case, I read email, do some web searches and use google maps a bit. With that kind of usage pattern I won’t generally burn over 200 Meg, as evidenced by my iPhone data history. Using the iPad on the road, doing realtime navigation, plus streaming netflix over 3G to test it out burned over 1gig in less than a month.
