Media salivates over Androids growth

When the media act irresponsibly, they should be accountable. The headline in the below article would make you think that Android had over-taken Apple in market share. When you read the article though you find that Android is still in third even though they have been giving away the phones/OS.

This headline is running around to all the media sites. Fast Money addressed it today and said Apple was dominating the market, non- story. Just watched JC and he had nothing but great things to say about AAPL. He is looking for a pullback tomorrow though. :-(

Smartphone manufacturers who compete with Apple have always outsold Apple collectively.  Many of them are now switching production to Android and ramping up volume.  That Android growth goes way up is no surprise.

Intraday and AH didn’t reflect any concern on the part of investors.  I don’t see this bit of “news” affecting AAPL tomorrow.

The Summer of AAPL is here.  Enjoy it (responsibly) while it lasts.

Mav, I agree with it not having any effect on AAPL. Just ranting over how it was portrayed. you gotta love this clip from Fast Money.

    Why iPhone can beat Android

Ensuring a deep, deeply satisfying and deeply personal user experience will be critical to the huge battle between Apple and Google for the future of computing, and despite Google’s huge Android market share increases, Apple’s iOS continues to deliver what consumers want, while Android remains the budget-priced option. In this war, it may be quality, not quantity, which marks the difference between failure and success.

Anyone who is framing the story as a Google v. Apple battle doesn’t understand the fundamentals of the market. Android handsets generate very little revenue for Google.

Android is a stopgap. Google’s future is Chrome.

What the Androids handsets accomplish is expanding the market for smartphones, reducing the probability of success for Microsoft’s next mobile OS and feeds the revenue needs of of service providers.

The bigger story comes over the next two years when Apple expands the domestic carriers offering the iPhone and Android owners replace their first handsets. Many will migrate to the iPhone.

    Google?s future is Chrome.

If you care to (perhaps in a separate thread) I’d love to hear you expand on this thought.
