Will AAPL rebound in Monday trading?
[ Edited: 05 February 2011 12:59 AM by DawnTreader ] -
Worst case scenario: Does anyone think the closure of the Suez Canal in Egypt would effect apple much? Would it just cause a temporary inventory shortage in Europe? I figure they could still airfreight iphones/ipods/macbooks, but iMacs might suffer a week or 2 delay in shipments possibly if they need to instead detour around africa?

I would prefer the market to correct. Its not realistic to go up everyday. Correction is healthy in a long term trend…I would say Down on Monday
-
No rebound on Monday - we go down a little more.. The party begins on the 2nd in anticipation of VZ launch / hoopla.

Futures started advanced slowly early morning, despite Egypt fears and ahead of economic data releases starting at 8:30 with Personal Income, Personal Spending and PCE Prices ? Core and Chicago PMI 9:45. Notable earnings this Monday from XOM, APC, HMC and NVLS on the pipeline. Alpha Natural Resources acquired Massey Energy in a $7.1 billion deal with MEE shares up up more than 12% on pre-market.
December consumer spending up 0.7% and income up 0.4%. PCE prices flat.
XOM beats top and bottom line Q4 revenue $105.2 billion on expected $89.8 billion, earnings $9.25 billion on expected $6.05 billion and Q4 EPS 1.85 on expected $1.27. Shares were up 1.2% on pre-market.
In Egypt, 82 year old President Muhamad Hosni Sayyid Mubarak made clear he is not ready to step down from its 30-year heavy handed ruling of a country of 80 million inhabitants. Mr. Mubarak, a former Commander of the Egyptian Air Force, during the weekend he dismissed his cabinet and appointed Mr. Omar Suleiman, Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate (EGID), the national intelligence agency, as Vice President and Air Force Commander Ahmed Shafik as Prime Minister. His intentions are now made clear as this is not just about Hosni Mubarak?s government, it is a military government. Generals and retired generals control much of the government and many are influential in business. Two-thirds of the country?s governors are former generals.
Thousands are being arrested amongst protesters, looters and journalists (six just from Al Jazeera) . The powerful Armed Forces of Egypt, ranked 7th in the World with around 1 million active and reserve personnel are being deployed to control cities and curb unrest. Situation still volatile, but images of protesters are being substituted by others showing some sort of normalcy on Cairo streets, especially on live feed at CNN from the Egyptian State TV.
Asian markets are down on turmoil in Egypt with the exception of China trading higher. Egypt woes are also weighing in European markets.
Friday?s pullback made a lot of damage to the charts of major indexes. Momentum has turned bearish for the DJIA and SPX. The SPX broke under the narrow up channel it has been since early December and also fell bellow the 20-day moving average, however it is still on the longer uptrend drawn from its August low. Eyes are now on SPX 1270, last week?s low, before it gets to the lower bound of the longer term trendline, near 1260.
USDX at 77.855 down -0.54%. The dollar has surrendered the bulk of Friday?s safe haven gains. Euro at $1.3697 up 0.65%.
DJI at 11,840.58 gaining 16 points, up 0.14%SPX at 1279 up 0.24%
NDX at 2268.28 down -0.10%
RUT at 778.64 up 0.42%
VIX at 19.40 down -3.19%
AAP at $336.05 flat.
Volatility on the early going. With indexes short term oversold, will expect market stabilizing a bit later and look for direction.

Good Morning Boys and Girls
The sponge was able to scrap some cash last week and I transferred into my account this this morning. Bought more shares at 335.60 after managing to buy a few more at 330 and 332 last week. I am all in as much as I possible can hold. Had the stock gone below 334 I would have gotten a margin call.
This morning action took me by surprise. I thought we would drop and stay down. Now we are moving up and beating the market.
Most of my friends and acquaintances know me as the mac guy. I have lost track of how many people keep asking me when the next iPHone or iPad is coming out. These people don’t own either. I think WS will be in for a shock to see how many iPad 2 Apple will sell.
The economy is slowly recovering and Apple is becoming more main stream. I think if we come out with a new killer iMac this fall, we could see a major uptick in Mac sales in 1st quarter fiscal 2011. That is one of many reasons I think this stock is a bargain at 337.
Good Luck to all
