Employees have had to download gigabytes of data from Apple corporate labeled, ?training? in a password-protected zipped folder that won?t accessible to managers or anyone else until Saturday afternoon.

Apple stores have apparently already received hardware to install, and are expecting more hardware to come on Friday or Saturday. All materials that Apple stores have received have been instructed to be under lock and key until after close on Saturday night.

What is hardware ?  Something besides promotional materials ?

    1. OS X Lion ?    Too early
    2. Mobile Me ?  Unlikely, if there is hardware to install.
    3. Phones ?  It could happen.  Phones in stores a few weeks before releasing to the public.
    4. Macs ?  Unlikely to warrant a special event unless super cool
    5. Other super cool device for the iTunes universe.  Possible.
    6. General bargain pricing ?  But why would new hardware be needed ?

Anyone planning a trip to an Apple store?

I might get to the NYC Cube, but it’s my graduation day (grad school). Will need to be creative about fitting it into the schedule.

What ever it is it better move the stock.

Why would they release it on a Sunday?  IF the anniversary is on Thursday why wait three more days?

When we are so down they play with our feeble minds and we grasp unto any (BGR RUMOR) life boat to save us from drowning in our own misery.  :bugeyed:

I don’t have faith that it will be that big.  An event would be needed to sell the item.  With no event planned, putting black tarps over stores does not make for big marketing.  Mystery is not a good tool for promoting anything big in my book.

Looking at NYC Cube schedule. Thursday shows normal classes, as many as any other day.

There might be a T-shirt giveaway, maybe some cool demo, but iPhone 5?! Not likely.

If it’s the iPhone, it sounds like they’ll have them ready to sell…on Sunday? Look for black curtains on Sat. night.

There?s an overnight shift planned for around 10-15 individuals at each Apple Store to work from late Saturday all the way through mid-Sunday.

Oops, missed the portion about staff training Sat to Sun. Sun is what I should have been looking at. SO, there are some encouraging results.

I just looked at 3 stores (NYC Cube, NYC SoHo, Virginia Tysons- 1st Apple store) and their schedule for this Sun the 22nd differs from yesterday and following Sunday in that there are no scheduled morning events (in SoHo, 1st event is 12pm, NYC Cube 2pm, and Tysons “NO EVENTS scheduled for this day” - they only have morning typically).

So there might be something Sunday morning. Can some people quickly check that this pattern (less events on the 22nd, specifically in the morning) holds for their local store? Go to http://www.apple.com/retail/

It’s possible the hardware might not be a consumer product. After 10 years of Apple Stores, maybe they’re doing a revamp of the store itself: new POS hardware and new procedures (hence the training).

Not nearly as fun but IMO more likely. There have been no leaks of big new stuff imminent.

    That sounds more logical.

Because Pirates of the Caribbean comes out on Friday.

The two things that come to mind, if it’s hardware are:

    1) iPhone 4S (no 5’s) with instructions for Sprint and T-Mobile activation

    2) Apple televisions

You do realize we are relying on one rumor from BGR.  Maybe they are just wrong about the details.

We know there is an in store event for the anniversary but the secret NDA stuff was added to create a buzz.

    Yes I am becoming paranoid.
