How do you keep a secret?

A new I phone should be out within 3 weeks. It had to be designed by engineers, parts and assembly negotiated with multiple companies, assembled by thousands of workers, most making little money and easily bribable participating. Yet we have no idea what’s coming. And this is one of the most sought after pieces of information around

I have a hard time imagining how one makes a project of this scope while generating so much interest.

Anyone have clues/info as to the logistics of keeping a secret of this magnitude?

Signing incredibly powerful non-disclosure agreements for a start. Threats of termination, loss of options and any non-vested incentives, that sets the tone.

I think people MAY, just may, be starting to get the picture that Apple has very, very little patience for info leaks.  And that they will be tracked down.  And that Apple can drop the company you work for as a supplier on a moment’s notice, often for one of many all-to-eager competitors of your company.  And that would be very, very bad for your company, yourself, and your family.

It stops being as much of a game when Apple crests $100B in revs.

I’ll be very pleased if Apple can manage to keep a lid on the design.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple also engages in disinformation. There are so many images and conflicting rumors out there that people have essentially given up trying to figure out which is true.

Since we don’t know what we’re waiting for or how long we’ll have to wait, might as well buy the current iPhone now. Of course that applies to the minority of people who even keep track of the iPhone product cycle.

I think we know that they do. It’s how they confirm suspected leaky channels before cutting them out. As a result, even insiders aren’t sure what they really know.

The bad news is that the rumormongers got the launch window essentially right.

The good news is that’s about all they seem to know for sure.

Mav, you HOPE they got the launch window right!  To my knowledge, no media invite yet.

I heard a rumor it could be November.  LOL

    I don’t like playing jack-in-the-box.

    Wireless syncing.
    Slightly larger screen.
    More memory.

All of which are incremental updates.

Which rumormongers are you talking about, Mav? IIRC, most of us didn’t really believe the October rumors until WSJ/ATD wrote about it. That happened in early-August (here & here). Up to that point people were still throwing out dates in August & September.

“sources” that keep throwing out revised guesses every few weeks do not count as reliable in my book. Of course they eventually hit the right time frame if they keep on changing it once the last guess is proven wrong.

I think, if you leaked an Apple secret, going into any room with Steve Jobs becomes room 101….
