Apple settles with Proview

    Paid $60 million to make it all go away.

    I can’t help but think that with TC in charge, this will be the end of it, but if SJ were still alive, we might be reading next week about $60 million lawsuits filed against individual Proview executives for fraud wink

    Nokia?

    Steve did settle now and then, I believe.

    It’s Tim in charge now and while arguably more than a little extortionate, it’s a pittance that will pay off big for Apple and shareholders down the road.

    Hopefully the new iPad can now be launched in China.

    IF….Apple “makes” $175/iPad average ... { my guestimate }

    THEN…. it will take less than 350,000 units sold in China to recoup this extortion.

    Or….

    ... again my guess….

    LESS THAN the first weeks sales should cover this, including lawyers and fees.

    Seems such a shame that the entire value in the name came from what Apple did with it, while the irony of course is that Proview owned the name for their original iMac clone.

    Nice work if you can get it.

    I don’t want to sound stupid (but I just can’t help myself) but I want to be sure that I understand you. Are you saying that Apple makes $175 net, not gross, from the sale of each iPad?

    Net, of course.

    I “guesstimate” that they average $660/unit gross.

    Thanks. I assumed so, but I didn’t want to get it wrong.
