A short, quick read before the market bell rings…

    http://wallstcheatsheet.com/stocks/survey-new-iphone-sales-will-be-explosive.html/?ref=YF

“Seventy-seven percent of current iPhone users plan to stay loyal to the brand, while 5 percent are planning to make the switch to Android. Among Android users, 48 percent plan to buy another Android phone next, while 17 percent are considering switching to an iPhone.”

Aaple and Google will cross in price at the open, one heading way up, one dowwwwn.

This will be the last time their share prices ever cross…..IMHO.

I think there will be some nice buying opportunities later in the week.

I was planning on seeing 680 for the open but was hoping for a bigger jump.

We should keep going up tomorrow after closing around 685 today.

The overall market is flat and if it starts to correct it will keep our party in check.

Will be buying tomorrow and Wednesdsy as etrade money becomes available.

On an ordinary day, no. Day after the Samsung ruling? Yep. Just my opinion, obviously. But this move could have happened easily without a verdict, with a mixed verdict, etc, and could easily be chalked up to iPhone anticipation. I was expecting more this AM. Perhaps I’m too greedy.

Fun fact about “The Rocket:”  The Saturn V accelerates slowly at launch, belying its power.  At the moment the Saturn V clears the top of the gantry (around 9 seconds), it’s traveling at 50 miles per hour.  The think the verdict is a big deal going forward.  Patience will be rewarded.

Also quite appropriate considering the passing of America’s first man on the moon over the week-end, since the Saturn V is what got him there.

The symbolism was not lost on me.  If you’ve read the minute-by-minute recount of the touchdown on the moon, one fact stands above all else:  Neil Armstrong was a STUD, besides being a great American.  RIP.

“I am, and ever will be, a white-socks, pocket-protector, nerdy engineer,” Neil Armstrong 1930-2012 (asymco tweet)

    Rest In Tranquility

That landing on the moon showed nerves of steel.  And I recall that only weeks before, during a training session with the LEM, there was a serious malfunction which caused him to eject before it crashed to the ground.

One of my frat brothers wanted desperately to apply for the Space Shuttle program, which was accepting applications in ‘75-‘76 timeframe.  To enhance his chances, he contacted Prof. Armstrong to have lunch during the January IEP period - which we had off - since we were members of the same fraternity, Phi Delta Theta.  My friend was approaching Prof. Armstrong about perhaps doing a letter of recommendation, but in a show of true integrity, he mentioned that he could only do this if my bro had worked for him doing research or in another capacity.  My frat bro totally understood, and, long story short, eventually worked at NASA but not as an astronaut.

It must have been very cool to have had him as a professor.  I had the opportunity to hear America’s first man in space, Alan Shepard, speak one time in mid-90’s, but could not make it at the last minute.  I really regretted not doing this, since he passed away a couple of years later.  These guys are a part of the American fabric.
