iOS 7 Home Screen, What are those dots?

Why is it that I can’t find out from Apple what some of the new features mean on the new iOS?  After installing iOS 7 I noticed a small dot to the left of the App name for some, not all Apps.  I’ve attached a screen shot with one location highlighted.

I’ve searched the web and can’t find an explanation.

Have you ever opened that app since you downloaded it…?

i.e. that is a new app (for you). Before it had a blue diagonal banner. Now it has a blue dot.

Wow! That was simple.  Even though I’ve used all of the apps with a dot before the upgrade I guess the iOS thinks that they are new.  I opened a few of the apps with the dot and when I returned to the Home Screen the dot was gone.

    Thanks for the clarification.

(and it would be great if apps got yellow and red dots if I haven’t launched them in, say, 30 or 60 days… wink )
