filevault 2 causes dramatic slow down in boot time (256GB SSD)
I have a Samsung SSD that has always booted quickly until I turned on filevault 2. I knew that filevault could cause some things to be a bit slower, but didn’t expect my boot time to go from roughly 40 secs to somewhere around 5 - 6 mins. Is this to be expected? Is there something I can do to get my boot time back to under a minute and keep filevault enabled?
Wow, no, that’s not something I’ve ever experienced. I’m guessing it’s related to the CPU in that particular Mac than it is the SSD. What kind of Mac is it?
It’s a late 2011 17” Macbook Pro 2.4GHz i7 with an aftermarket 256GB Samsung SSD.
If you have a look at the screenshot you will see that the partitions QX2_540GB and QX2_Projects are appearing as Drives, not volumes. I don’t know why it is doing this and I would like to know if this is safe or not. I would be fine erasing and reformatting the entire drive as it’s basically a clone of each of my hard drives in my mac pro but I would prefer not to.
