Aperture + Synology

    Hi everyone!

I have a new Synology NAS and am looking to offload photos to it. I am using Aperture. I’ve read absolute horror stories about data corruption with both iPhoto and Aperture photos on NAS devices. Some say it can be done. Others say it can’t.

Therefore, before I embark on simply moving things over, I want to make sure I won’t have an issue.

How do I safely move all my photos to the Synology DS AND still be able to use Aperture without ever worrying about data corruption?

    Thanks so much in advance.

I have also been doing some reading regarding this subject.

I found two Apple Support articles that definetly warn against doing this.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3252
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

The only way to share a Library (one person at a time) is to put the Library on a DAS disk that has been formated for Mac OS Extended.
This does protect your Library in that the second person will get a warning say the Library is “already in use”.

It appears that there is no safe way to do this as Apple did not write the Software for use on a Network with “File Locking” capabilities.

Let me know if you find any other information:
