Should Apple really open all these stores? Or is going to put Apple out of business?

Apple’s total projected expenditures for the next year or two on opening Apple stores: Less than US$100 million

Total amount of Apple’s available cash reserves: over US$4.1 billion (or 410 x 100 million, if you want to look at it that way)

Even if Apple didn’t make one penny of profit from any of its stores (not likely), it still wouldn’t be put out of business because of it.

Getting Apple products out where people can see them can only help Apple, not hurt it. Many people aren’t even aware that Apple still exists, so showing them that they are still around is very important.

I’ve said it before elsewhere, I don’t give a lemur’s tonsile if the Apple Stores make a dime. The important thing those stores do is get Apple products out into the public where they can be seen, touched and talked about. The theater shows great Apple propaganda and the Genius Bar lets people ask questions. If the public can see how good Apple produces are and how cool Mac OS X is, it will help Apple’s bottom line even if folks don’t buy in the stores themselves.
