Griffin Survivor Core Case for iPhone 6/6 Plus: Excellent Protection with a Clear Back

Griffin has released the Survivor Core case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Survivor Core case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

This case offers some of the protective features of the more bulky Survivor All-Terrain but manages to remain slender and lightweight, primarily because of rigid polycarbonate see-through back.

The iPhone 6 case weighs 1.0 ounce (28 grams). The 6 Plus weighs 1.3 ounces (37 grams). The iPhone 6 case is available in black or purple. The 6 Plus case is available in black, purple or white. Both versions have an MSRP of US$29.99, and each provides a one year warranty. The package is a typical hang-on-the wall style with an opening that allows prospective buyers to feel the case. Information for contacting Griffin is published on the package. Both size cases are available for immediate shipment.

The bumper is flexible polyurethane (TPU) that gives good protection to the side, top and bottom of the phone. There is also a raised edge designed to protect the touchscreen from nicks and scratches. This case works with screen protectors, but one is not included. According to Griffin, the case provides protection from a 6.6 feet (2 meters) drop onto concrete.

One very nice new feature on the Griffin cases is a recessed opening for the mute switch. According to my mail, the biggest headache for iPhone 5/5s users was how easy it was for that switch to be accidentally set to off when the phone was inserted and removed from pockets. This new recessed protection is a welcome addition.

Recessed mute switch.

Using The Product

I have to say that I love everything about this case, and it is the one I choose to use for my own iPhone 6. It is light weight and thin and it provides protection for the mute switch. It fits easily into my jeans pockets.

It is flexible enough that it is fairly easy to insert and remove the phone without doing any damage to the case.  The see through back provides excellent protection for the back and although there are marks on the see through back of my test unit, the actual back of my phone remains in pristine condition. And, of course, the Apple logo is visible for all to see.

The volume buttons and power button are covered, but it is easy to push them. I tested the quality of the flash guard around the camera lens and found that it does not inhibit the images in any way.

Do I Recommend It?

I do. It is sturdy yet lightweight. There is extra protection for the edges of the phone and the see-through back gives excellent protection while both reducing the over all weight and allowing the Apple logo to be visible to all. The price is quite reasonable for a protective case. I have reviewed other cases for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that cost as much or more than this one without providing the same level of protection.
