The Soft Grip iPad mini case from Lapworks is versatile and easy to use. The hard shell case is made of Polycarbonate plastic, the same material used to make bulletproof glass, and then covered with a soft rubber coating that gives a smooth texture to the finish. It can be held by a hand strap or it can stand on its own in either horizontal or vertical position.

This case includes a two inch wide stretchable Neoprene hand strap that swivels 360 degrees. By releasing two clamps, the hand strap can turn into a sturdy stand. By releasing a second set of clamps, the strap/stand is completely removable so the user is left with a completely flat case that is strong and reliable.

The case is a clam-shell design. The user places the iPad mini inside the case and then folds down the top piece and snaps it in place. There is no protective cover over the face of the iPad mini, but there is a ⅞-in rim at the top and bottom of the case and a ⅝-in rim on the two long sides.

Using The Product
I found much to like about this case. First of all, it is so very easy to insert or remove the iPad mini, and yet, with the clam shell top fastened, it is securely held in place. And then, there is still plenty of protective rim to add protection without covering the face of the mini.
Another thing I really like is the strap/stand and the mechanism that controls it. I’m not much for using a strap with my mini because my hands are small and not very strong, but the strap is comfortable for all that and the 360 degree rotation works smoothly. To create a stand from that same strap apparatus, you just pinch the appropriate clamps to raise it up and create a stand. This is a strong, sturdy stand that is not going to fail. The ability to remove the strap/stand completely is also a plus. I don’t recall seeing this feature on other strapped cases.
Do I Recommend it?
I do. There is nothing to dislike unless you are determined to have protection over the entire face of an iPad mini. Many people, and I am one of them, finds face plate covering to be a nuisance. My only exception to this is the Seidio VITREO tempered glass screen cover which I continue to happily use.
The ease of use and the sturdy stand make this an easy recommendation. The MSRP is US$34.95, but it is currently available for US$27.95 from HeldTite.
