Satechi’s BT Bluetooth Portable Speaker Has Good Sound

| Quick Look Review

Satechi has introduced a very stylish Bluetooth portable speaker, the Satechi BT, that will fit in the palm of your hand, pair with your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, and provide good quality sound up to 33 feet (10 m.) away from your device.

The MSRP for the speaker is US$44.99. Prices on the internet ranged up to US$52, but the best price I found was on Amazon where it was available for US$46.89 with free shipping.

Included with the speaker is a USB charging cable and a mesh carrying bag. There is a built-in 3.5 mm audio jack that can be used in place of bluetooth if desired. When not in use it is hidden on the bottom of the speaker.

Using the product

This speaker could not be easier to use. A quick turn of the top opens it.

The user turns it on by pressing the “on button” until the blue LED light starts to blink and then pairs it to the device or devices of their choice the first time it is used. The pair code is 0000. Once it is paired the user turns it on when ready to listen to their device. There is a mode button that allows the user to move from Bluetooth to audio jack.

Elements of the product

When using with a phone, users will note that a call will stop the music, which will then start back up at the conclusion of the call. There are options for moving from track to track, and a Buddy Jack that allows more than one speaker to be connected together. Volume can be controlled through the speaker or the device, as can calls.

The consistency of the sound remained constant as I moved away from the music source. When I reached the point where the transmission was no longer functional, the sound simply quit. I was able to easily use the speaker through closed doors as long as I did not move more than 30 feet from the source.

Do I recommend it?

I do. I do so wish it would work with my 4th generation iPod Nano so I could more easily listen to my audio books without headphones, but alas, there is no mechanism to pair to it. I wish that because the sound quality is so much better than the other small speaker I have been using. Nevertheless, it works great with my other devices and besides having a very cool design, it has good sound for the type speaker it is.  I also think the price is very reasonable and in keeping with the quality of the speaker.

I wonder if it could be used on the dashboard of a car?  The features list says it has a vacuum base, but the photo doesn’t appear that way.
