Sweet Design: the CODE Donut Bluetooth Speaker

| Quick Look Review

Taotronics has released the CODE Donut Bluetooth Speaker, a rather unique portable Bluetooth speaker that is shaped like a donut.

CODE Donut Bluetooth Speaker

This speaker should appeal to teens and tweens because it is colorful and unique. The sound is satisfactory. A full charge on the 1000 mAh bettery provides up to eight hours of either music time or talk time. It is available in four colors and has an MSRP of US$69.99. However, it is available from both Newegg and Amazon for $49.99

Color options.

The CODE Donut Bluetooth Speaker features Bluetooth v3.0 technology, and it will connect up to 30 feet away. The sound is powered by 2 x 1.25-in "neo magnet" drivers with a total output of 4 watts. Although no current versions of the iPhone have NFC (near-field communications) options, this speaker is set up for it and includes an NFC tag. The package also includes a 1.5 foot microUSB charging cable and a user manual. The speaker includes a 3.5 mm audio connector for use with non-Bluetooth music devices.

Package contents.

Using The Product

The speaker’s diameter is 5-in (12.7 cm), and it weighs 5.4 ounces (154 grams). It is easily held in one hand.

Size makes for easy handling.

It pairs seamlessly. There are two built-in speakers, and a built-in microphone which means it can be used for making and receiving calls. It can also be used with two or more persons for conference or Skype calls.  In my testing I was able to place three people around a table and each was able to both hear and be heard when the speaker was placed in the center of the table and connected by Bluetooth to an iPhone 5s. The table used in this situation was a large card table.

There is a power button, and the speaker is turned on and off by holding down that button for five seconds. The sound produces a strong base and there is an adequate quality to the music produced. The speaking sound production is excellent in a reasonably quiet environment.

Do I Recommend It?

I do. I like the feel of this speaker and it is quite easy to carry it around. The unique look will appeal to a certain population group and for that group, it is a fun item. The price is reasonable and the sound production is very good for phone calls and pretty good for music.

Nancy, working my way through university I earned some coin lolling in an old folks home and we had gismos identical and as colourful as those depicted in your insightful article; however they were a might bigger for the position they were used in beds of those with weak spots on their heinies.
Brings back pleasant memories, none the less.
The music feature is a step up.
Namaste and care,
