Ten One’s Magnus Stand For iPads Holds Magnetically

Ten One has created a unique table stand, the Magnus, that works with both the iPad 2 and the iPad 3. It is machine-crafted from pure aluminum and then hand-finished. When finished, customized magnets are installed into the base, and rubberized feet are fitted to the bottom surface. The magnets in the Magnus latch onto the ones built into the iPad to support the Smart Cover. A strip of rubber acts as a buffer between the two metal surfaces.

The Magnus will not work with iPads in cases.

When used with a brushed silver colored Mac the Magnus almost disappears into the background, taking up very little space and blending with the Mac.

Using the product

The stand does indeed hold the iPad securely in place and even though the box only mentions the iPad 2, it also worked perfectly well with my iPad 3. You only have one viewing angle, but it works for both vertical and horizontal viewing. Of course, in portrait mode only, you can't connect a charger cable.

When attaching the iPad to the stand, it almost snaps into place as the magnets grab. When removing the iPad you must hold down the back plate at the same time the iPad is grasped. If you don’t, the stand will lift with the iPad and, when it leaves a flat surface --then it will finally drop away and cause dents in the stand.

The biggest advantage to this stand is the minimalist style and the small footprint. It looks great on my glass top desk and takes up very little space.

Do I recommend it?

I do. Anyone who primarily keeps their iPad in a single place on a flat surface, should enjoy this stand and appreciate the esthetics and functionality.
