Ireland's Royal College Of Surgeons Buys 305 iBooks For Incoming Students

by , 1:30 PM EST, November 20th, 2002

Eagle eyed Observer Stephen Vaughn (iGrouch in the TMO forums) noticed a story in the Irish Times this weekend about Apple. According to a one picture mention, with no accompanying story, the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland is using Macs for its incoming class of first-year students. The deal is worth €520,000 (US$521,451.68), and includes 305 iBooks purchased from Apple Ireland. The Irish Times also says that the Royal College of Surgeons now has the biggest installation of Macs in the Republic of Ireland.

The caption reads:

Students Mr. Frank Leader, Ms. Mazidah Noordin and Mr. Nivan Loganathan working on their iBooks outside the Royal College of Surgeons [Dublin].  The college has signed a €520,000 deal to purchase 305 Apple iBook laptop computers from Apple Ireland. The college has bought the laptops for its intake of first year students and now has the largest installation of Macs in the Republic of Ireland.

Thanks to iGrouch for the heads up and the help with this article.

The Mac Observer Spin:

This isn't the world's largest computer deal, but 305 iBooks is still 305 iBooks. A half a million dollars here, and a half a million euros there can add up to real money before you know it. It's also good to know that a medical school is relying on Macs, instead of Windows, to train its students.
