Apple Gives .Mac Members Freefall Satellite Screen Saver

by , 3:15 AM EST, February 1st, 2005

Apple announced Monday evening that .Mac members can download XtremeMac's Freefall Satellite Simulator Screen Saver through their .Mac accounts. Freefall Satellite Simulator is a Mac OS X-native application that allows users to see the simulated orbits of some 850 orbiting satellites.

Freefall Satellite Simulator offers many different views, information on the satellites being watched, and different perspectives from which to watch the satellites spinning around the Earth.

"Just watching it in the three options included in the free screen saver version is mesmerizing," wrote Apple in its .Mac newsletters. "In the application itself, using your mouse to zoom in and out, spin around, pick cities to center on, and more, can be downright addictive."

The screen saver version being offered is not the full version, and not all features are available. .Mac members can buy the full version for a 30% discount, however, at US$20.95.

The Freefall install disk is a 17 megabyte download, and can be found on your iDisk in the Software -> Members Only directory. You can find more information on the product at XtremeMac's Web site.
