Mac Version of SlingBox App Gets Beta Release

Mac Version of SlingBox App Gets Beta Release

by , 4:25 PM EST, October 31st, 2006

Sling Media on Tuesday issued a public Beta of the Mac version of its software that accesses the company's SlingBox device through a computer. SlingBox allows users to access live TV shows, as well as content recorded on a DVR, from any computer connected to the Internet, whether it's in the same house or on the other side of the world.

Macworld noted that Sling Media has been selling different varieties of the SlingBox that claim to be Mac-compatible but don't include Mac software. A spokesman told the Web site: "When we made the decision on packaging several months ago we felt we would have the Mac client out there and available in time for the new product launch. Unfortunately that has been delayed as you can see."

The software requires Mac OS X v10.4. Macworld also offers a rundown of editor Jason Snell's experiences with SlingBox, both in Windows -- through a Dell PC as well as through Boot Camp -- and in Mac OS X.
