MacTicker 1.1.4 ($25, Runtime Limited Demo)
Galleon Software, Inc.

In the fast-moving world of the stock market, keeping track of what your securities are doing at all times can be important. Sure, you can bookmark a web page and keep coming back to it, but this can become a chore. Wouldn't it be nice to have an old-fashioned ticker in front of you at all times? MacTicker is a scrolling stock ticker for your Mac, but it adds important features the paper-based version can't match.

Once you start MacTicker, you'll want to go to the Preferences and adjust the appearance of your ticker. You can control the ticker position, size, scroll direction, as well as the display font and color. An alert feature lets you specify a special alert color, used when any stock changes more than a selected percentage or amount. An alert can also flash. You can also specify what site is used to obtain the quotes, and how often they are updated.

After you are satisfied with your appearance options, you should go to the Stocks menu, and then choose Edit so you can add your own stocks. Having a list of symbols handy will speed entry of these values. For each, you can override the default alert settings, handy for stocks whose behavior differs from others in your portfolio.

The difference from a traditional ticker becomes apparent when you double-click on a stock in the ticker bar. A window showing detailed information for that security will be displayed. This window has buttons that can bring you to the actual web page from which the info was obtained, edit or print the stock's info, or update the info.

MacTicker will keep you up to date, and lets you know if you should be popping open a bottle of champagne, or looking for the nearest window ledge.
