Q3Finder 1.0 (Freeware)
Scott Kevill

I'm one of the many who feel it is their civic duty to help test out the Quake 3 Arena Test, otherwise known as Q3Test. But if you want to play with other folks over the Internet, you have to keep a list of servers, and keep typing their IP address into the game. There must be a better way. Well, there is!

Q3Finder will query one or more master servers (id Software is included by default) to find out what Q3Test games are registered on the Internet. You are given the name of the game, the IP address and port, the map being used, and the response time in milliseconds. If a server is down or times out, this fact is noted. By the use of either regular or contextual menus, you can click on the game you want and join it immediately. Q3Finder also lets you set your User Profile, which consists of your character name, skin color, effects color and connection speed.

If you aren't the lucky owner of a Rage Pro or Rage 128 graphics card, you're out of luck when it comes to Q3Test. Unless you use this handy little library which will let you use your Voodoo or Voodoo 2 graphics card instead. The benefits are many. First, you can now play the game! Second, you don't need to add the beta OpenGL drivers to your system. Third, everything will look a lot better. At least it did compared to my Rage Pro card.
