Beta cloning

I would like to test Catalina on my system (for various personal reasons). The machine is my daily driver so I obviously want to be careful.

I know can (and I will) install Catalina on a thumb drive so I can boot independently. That part is simple. What I would really like to know is how I can clone my existing OS, and the OS only, onto the thumb drive so I can upgrade only the bootable to Catalina. Which means I want all of the Prefs, driver, configs, etc. on the thumb drive. All of the application, data and data connections remain on the main drive.

It sounds like this can "easily" be done after Catalina since the OS will be on a separate APFS volume, but can I make this setup work now?

Thanks.

Ed

Maybe you want a SuperDuper Sandbox clone?
