Hey all,

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro I've recently upgraded with a 500gb sata ssd and will be upgrading from 4gb ram to 16gb ddr3 ram soon. I was wondering if I can run the Catalina OS on this computer after I upgrade the ram. I cant seem to find a direct answer to this on the apple website as they only show requirements based on year and model. It has a 2.5 ghz intel core i5 processer. I know i can only get by so long with mojave and I am hoping to run the computer for as long as possible with a supported OS maybe even big sur when the time comes as Linux just makes the computer way too hot and I've tried several different ubuntu based linux OS'S. The Mac OS just works the best for me.

Thanks!

Looks like you just make it.

Yes that model is fine (I have one of the same model that I’ve just placed into retirement because it won’t run Big Sur) but I’m not certain about your statement that you’ll be upgrading the memory. My recollection is that the memory is not able to be changed.... but maybe somebody found a way to do it?
